What is Armoured Cable?
Armoured cable, also referred to as armored cable or AC cable, is an electrical cable designed with a protective metallic armour. This armour enhances the cable’s strength and durability, making it ideal for challenging environments where mechanical damage or moisture exposure is a risk. The armour typically consists of galvanized steel wires or tapes that encase the inner conductors.
Varieties of Armoured Cables
أسلاك الفولاذ المدرعة (سوا) كابل: SWA cables incorporate steel wires wrapped around the insulation layer and conductors, providing superior mechanical protection. These cables are frequently used in outdoor installations and underground wiring projects.
Steel Tape Armoured (STA) كابل: STA cables use a layer of steel tape instead of wires for armouring. These cables are more flexible and are often chosen for indoor applications where space is limited.
Aluminium Wire Armoured (أوا) كابل: AWA cables use aluminium wires for armouring, offering a lighter option compared to steel armoured cables. They are suitable for applications where reducing weight is important.
Armoured Cable Structural Materials
موصل: composed of plain stranded copper or aluminum.
عازلة: cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and similar materials offer high temperature resistance and excellent dielectric strength, enhancing electrical performance.
Bedding: serves as a protective layer between the insulation and the armour.
درع: steel or aluminum armour provides mechanical protection, enabling the cable to endure mechanical stresses.
غمد: holds the cable components together and adds an extra layer of protection. Black sheaths can be infused with carbon for UV stability.
Voltage: available in voltage ratings of 600/1000V, 6.35/11كيلو فولت, and 19/33kV.

Armoured Cable Application
Armored cable are widely used in various environments that require additional mechanical protection, including the following aspects:
Underground Cable installation: Armoured cable are often used for underground laying, and can withstand the pressure of underground soil and external mechanical damage to ensure the reliable operation of cables.
Industrial environment: In factories, mines and other industrial sites, due to the large number of mechanical equipment and complex environment, armored cables can provide additional mechanical protection to avoid damage caused by equipment operation or other external factors.
Outdoor and open-air environment: Armored cables are suitable for applications exposed to the outdoors, and can withstand the mechanical impact of the external environment and the influence of natural conditions, such as wind, مطر, sunlight and the bite of small animals.
Marine and submarine cables: In marine engineering and submarine communications, armored cables can resist the corrosion of seawater and the damage of marine organisms, ensuring the stable transmission of power and signals.
Wiring inside buildings: In high-rise buildings and public facilities, armored cables can increase the safety of cables and prevent damage to cables in fires or other emergencies.
Distribution network: Armored cables are used in urban and rural distribution networks to ensure the reliability and safety of power transmission.
In short, armoured cables are suitable for any cable application scenario that requires enhanced mechanical protection and environmental resistance, providing solid protection for power and communication systems.
