ACSS Conductor

ACSS and ACSS/AW and ACSS/TW are used for overhead distribution and transmission lines. They are designed to maintain resistance even at temperatures up to 250°C, minimizing buckling under emergency electrical loads better than ACSR/AW. When prestressed during installation, ACSS/AW has self-damping properties, that are not affected by the long-term creep of aluminum. These advantages make ACSS/AW especially beneficial for retraining projects that require increased current within existing voltages and clearances., as well as for new line installations in which the reduction of the conductor deflection allows more economical structures. It is also ideal for lines requiring high emergency loads and those prone to wind vibration problems..

ACSS/AW has a resistance similar to ACSS, along with slightly higher ampacity and greater corrosion resistance thanks to its aluminum clad steel core wires.

El ACSS/TW, for his part, It is designed for overhead distribution and transmission lines, and offers continuous operation at elevated temperatures up to 250 °C without loss of resistance. Experiences less buckling under emergency electrical loads compared to ACSR/TW and exhibits excellent self-damping characteristics. Just like the ACSS/AW, its end arrows are impervious to long-term creep of aluminum.

ACSS/TW Conductor

ACSS is a conductor concentric braiding compound in which steel wires form the central core, around which two or more layers of 1350-O annealed aluminum wires are braided. The steel core carries most of the mechanical load due to the soft temper of the aluminum. The steel core carries most of the mechanical load due to the soft temper of the aluminum. The steel core is protected against corrosion by a zinc-5% aluminum-mismetal alloy coating. For more information on aluminum clad ACSS (AW), consult the ACSS/AW catalog sheet. It is important to choose corrosion protection based on the environmental exposure of the driver.

ACSS/AW is also a concentrically stranded composite conductor with a central steel core and one or more layers of 1350-O annealed aluminum wires stranded around it.. Similar to ACSS, the steel core supports the mechanical load due to the soft temper of the aluminum, but in this case the steel core wires are protected from corrosion by an aluminum coating.

El ACSS/TW, other concentric stranded composite conductor, It has a central steel core surrounded by one or more layers of 1350-O aluminum wires of minimum average conductivity of the 63%. The steel core supports the mechanical load due to the soft temper of the aluminum, Protected from corrosion by a zinc-5% aluminum-mismetal alloy coating. Variants with high-strength steel core are also available, aluminized and aluminum clad.

1) Data based on nominal cable manufactured in accordance with ASTM B 857.

2) Strength and ampacity based on an aluminum conductivity of 63 % IACS a 20 °C and a steel conductivity of 8 % IACS a 20 °C.

3) Ampacity based on reference conductor temperature, ambient temperature of 25 °C, wind of 2 pies/s, to the sun, with an emissivity of 0,5 and a solar absorption coefficient of 0,5, at the sea level.

4) Nominal breaking strength for standard core based on Galfan clad steel core wire class A in accordance with ASTM B 802.

5) Nominal strength for high-strength core based on Class A Galfan-coated steel-core wire Galfan-coated high-strength steel-core wire in accordance with ASTM B 803.

6) The final design of a compact molded wire conductor depends on several factors., as: layer diameter, wire width and wire thickness. Actual configuration of a given size may vary between manufacturers.

This may cause a slight variation in the number of cables, the number of layers and dimensions of the individual cables compared to what is shown in the table.

Data based on nominal cable manufactured in accordance with ASTM B 857.

Resistance and maximum current capacity based on an aluminum conductivity of 63 % IACS a 20 °C and a steel conductivity of 8 % IACS a 20 °C.

Maximum current rating based on conductor reference temperature, ambient temperature of 25 °C, wind of 2 pies/s, to the sun, with an emissivity of 0,5 and a solar absorption coefficient of 0,5, at the sea level.

Nominal breaking strength for standard core based on Galfan clad steel core wire Class A in accordance with ASTM B 802.

Nominal strength for high-strength core based on Galfan-coated high-strength steel core wire Class A in accordance with ASTM B 803.

The final design of a compact molded wire conductor depends on several factors., as: layer diameter, wire width and wire thickness. Actual configuration of a given size may vary between manufacturers. This may cause a slight variation in the number of cables, the number of layers and dimensions of the individual cables compared to what is shown in the table.
